No, I do not think so.
When we design a device, what appear in our mind is energy band diagram, not
equations. Without a physical picture in mind, how can one understand how
the device works.
What more important is that for new designs,( I do not mean those conventional
structure, such as basic MOS, BJT), there is no equation or math available
to describe them. Since even a small variation from the basic structure, it
will make the math much more complicated. No device guy would like to work
with device physicist to work out the equations. They just keep the physical
model in their mind and first fabricate the device out. They will test the
idea by experiments. This is the way how device guy works at least here.
