1040NR instruction
but do not include INterest from a US.bank ......
because the interest is not effectively connected with a US trade or
busniss.
如果你选择不填interest in both lin9a and lin9b in order to avoid
the tax, 你就是选择把interest 当成 not effectivly with a US trade or
business.

你的收入是 effectively connected with a US trade or Bussiness 还是
not effectively connected with a US trade or bussiness.

type of income below:
for F-1
effectively connected with a US trade or bussiness part:
Scholarship (from 1042s if it is not the tuition or 5k treat part, for those
fellowship guys)
wages (w2 or some 1042s)

But the following types of income are not clear:
1. bank interests. (1099INV)
2. money market interests. (Divident)
3. Stocks (1099, for capital Gain)
4. internship income (???)

If I know the type of the above 3 types of income, I know how to fill
1040NR.

For those guys who claim computer/books expenses, legally u can only
claim from 1042s amount. That is, if u are RA/TA and got w2, u should not
be able to claim that expenses though I know many guys do like that way.

: : r u sure? In order to be considered as non-residents
: : when openning bank acct , u need to fill 100??
: : & w-6 form at bank, I think.
: The definition of non-resident is a bit twisted. If you're a foreign
: student, you file tax returns as "non-residents" (thus form 1040-NR),
: even if the fact is you actually live in the US and are actually
: a resident.
: The definition of "non-resident" at the banks may be different.
: I don't remember ever filling up forms you mentioned at any bank.
: I still receive an annual interest report from the bank, attach it
: to the tax form, and add a note claiming the exemption.
: For other types of income, e.g., stock and mutual funds, the story
: may be different.
